Embracing the Homeschool Journey

Tips and Encouragement for New Moms Amidst the Chaos
Hi, I’m Melissa — a homeschool mom of two who believes learning doesn’t have to feel overwhelming.
Homeschool Mom on the Farm was created to be a gentle, practical space for new homeschool moms and moms of elementary-aged kids who are looking for clarity, encouragement, and simple rhythms that actually work for your homeschool journey.
While we live a farm-style life, this blog isn’t just about farm chores and livestock (although those sometimes may sneak in 😉). It’s about building a home where learning feels connected to real life — where books, nature, character, and faith all matter.
I started this blog because I remember:
- Wondering if I was doing enough
- Feeling overwhelmed by curriculum choices
- Wanting someone to just explain things simply
- Needing reassurance that imperfect homeschool days are still good days
Here, you’ll find:
- Practical homeschooling tips
- Encouragement for hard days
- Honest lessons from our journey
- Elementary homeschool ideas
- Faith-based perspective
- Simple systems that reduce overwhelm
Starting your Homeschool Journey
Starting homeschooling is one of the most exciting — and nerve-wracking — decisions a family can make. One moment you feel full of vision and purpose, and the next you’re wondering if you’re truly qualified for the job. If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone.
Homeschooling isn’t just about curriculum and schedules. It’s about building a life with your children. It’s about slow mornings because what parent wants to rush if they don’t have too and what kid doesn’t want to sleep in if they can, curious questions, deep conversations, messy tables, oh! the messy tables, and the kind of learning that doesn’t always fit neatly inside a workbook. It’s beautiful, but it can also feel overwhelming when you’re just beginning.
Maybe you’re asking yourself: Am I doing enough? What if I choose the wrong curriculum? What if my child falls behind?
Those questions are normal. Every homeschooling mom has asked them at some point. The truth is, homeschooling is not about perfection — it’s about presence. It’s about showing up each day with love, consistency, and a willingness to grow alongside your children.
This space was created to encourage you in those early days — to offer simple guidance, practical help, and reassurance that you can do this. You don’t need to have it all figured out. You just need a starting place and the confidence to take the next small step.
If you’re at the beginning of this journey, take a deep breath. This is an exciting season. There will be challenges, yes — but there will also be laughter, connection, and moments you wouldn’t trade for anything.
If you’re new to homeschooling or in the elementary years and looking for support — you’re in the right place.
And alongside this blog, I host the podcast It’s a Beautiful Day to Homeschool, where we go even deeper into the real-life side of homeschooling.
